Higher education of good quality is imperative for a nation to become globally competitive in modern era of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization. Leaving behind its women, no nation can progress in the race of knowledge revolution. Revolutionary changes in the route of information technology have transformed the Globe into a small village. Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, has made its mark on the world map in imparting high quality education to women since 1950. While taking over the charge of the principal of this college w.e.f 3rd April 2008, I was overwhelmed with reverence and gratitude towards the founders of the college. I stepped into this great academic monolith for the first time in 1979 as a lecturer in Political Science. My short stay of six months here left an indelible imprint on my mind. I always longed for coming back to repay the love and affection I received from the institution. Friends, the problem of female foeticide in Punjab is of grave concern to us. Social prestige for women is a distant dream. Gender-bias exists at all levels of society. Male chauvinism is in full cry. As things stand today, we need to make women stronger-morally, emotionally, mentally and physically. We, in the institution, champion the cause of women upliftment by imparting not only value based but also job-oriented education. The need of the hour is to provide quality education, as the entire academic paradigm is shifting. The world is talking of Net Universities and Mobile-learning. It is a challenge for all of us to match the speed of time. I cordially welcome all those who are anxious to visit our website, who aspire to join this august institution. I appeal to all old students of the college in India and abroad to keep in touch with their alma mator. Let us make our ties stronger and save the girl child of Punjab. May God give us strength to take this Institution to the pinnacle of glory. |
