Under the aegis of SGHGU Hari Trust and able guidance of Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Principal (Addl.Charge) the Science Department of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the contribution of CV Raman, renowned scientist of India on February 28, 2024. A power point presentation competition on the topic “Exploring the Wonders of Everyday Science” was organized to mark the day in which 6 teams comprising of 2 students each participated. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, HoD Botany Department and Prof. Rajni prepared the students for this contest. Shreya Sharma and Tbessum Chauhan secured first position. Simrandeep Kaur and Ravneet Kaur bagged the second place. Third prize was won by Nitika and Sukhjeet Kaur. Prof. Gagandeep Singh Aulakh, HoD Physics Department and Prof. Ashwani were the judges of this event. A skit titled “Science versus Superstitions” was also staged by the students to highlight the significance of cultivating scientific temper. Prof. Gurjit Singh, Prof. Ashish Kumar and Prof. Puneet guided the students in putting up this performance. Prof. Sumit Kumar enlivened the programme by asking interesting questions related to various aspects of science to the audience. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Principal (Addl. Charge) praised the diligent efforts of Science Department for organizing this event. She said that Science is not only a subject but a philosophy and an attitude that needs to be cultivated for enhancement of problem solving and logical thinking skills in practical life. Winners were felicitated with trophies. Appreciation certificates were given to performers in the play. Prof. Nidhi and Prof. Ashish Kumar conducted the proceedings of stage efficiently. Prof. Gagandeep Singh Aulakh proposed the formal vote of thanks.
