Code of Conduct


Khalsa College for Women Sidhwan Khurd has declared its policy of Code of Conduct and Ethics to be abided by the Faculty members and students. This Policy indicates the standard procedures and practices for appropriate Conduct and Ethics for the entire Faculty and employees and all the students who have enrolled in this Institution. This document lays down guidelines and norms to be followed to ensure good conduct and ethical practices in the Institute. The document is made available in both the forms- soft and hard. All the stakeholders are expected to be well conversant with the Code of Conduct and Ethics, which can also be viewed on the official website of the Institution. The code of Conduct for Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff is given to them
at the time of appointment. The Code of Conduct for the students is given in the Handbook of Information and explained to them during annual Students’ Orientation Programme in the beginning of session. The Code of Conduct is based on the guidelines given by University Grants Commission and the affiliating Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Code of Conduct for Principal
 The Principal should always be honest, fair, objective, supportive, protective and law abiding.
 Assume responsibility and accountability for his/her performance.
 Promote institutional interaction and inculcate research development activities.
 Communicate to parents all information which should be revealed in interest of students.
 Ensure that the staff and students are aware of rules, policies and procedures laid down by the college.
 Be fair in his disciplinary actions for all the members of faculty, non- teaching staff and students.
 Recommend and forward communication to the authorities.
 Monitor and manage the administration of the institution and take remedial actions based on the stakeholders’ feedback.
 Execute any other qualitative and quantitative work for the welfare of the students and the institution.
 Empower all his/her staff and students to reach their maximum potential.


Code of Conduct for Teachers
 Every teacher should conduct himself / herself in accordance with the ideal of the profession.
 A teacher is constantly under the scrutiny of his students and the society at large. Therefore, every teacher should see that there is no incompatibility between his precepts and practice.
 The national ideals of education which have already been set forth and which he/she should seek to inculcate among students must be his/her own ideals.
 The profession further requires that the teachers should be calm, patient and communicative by temperament and amiable in disposition.
 Respect the right and dignity of the student in expressing his/her opinion and deal justly and impartially with students regardless of their religion, caste, political, economic, social and physical characteristics.
 Adhere to a responsible pattern of conduct and demeanour expected of them by the community.
 Manage their private affairs in a manner consistent with the dignity of the profession.
 Seek to make professional growth continuous through study and research.
 Perform their duties in the form of teaching, tutorial, practical, seminar and research work conscientiously and with dedication.
 Co-operate and assist in carrying out functions relating to the educational responsibilities of the college and the university.


Code of Conduct for the Students
The norms of Code of Conduct for the students to be followed are:
 The student must carry her College ID at all times when on campus. Student without I-cards will not be allowed to enter the college campus.
 Students are strictly instructed to come in college on time.
 Dress up in a decent manner that is appropriate for academic environment.
 Ragging is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a serious crime.
 Keep their mobile phones switched off in class. Mobile phones can be
used only in the designated areas. Students who violate this rule will have
to face disciplinary action.
 Strictly follow the rules and regulations of the college.
 Dress up in a manner that is appropriate for academic environment.
 Interact with all members of college community with politeness and courtesy.
 Respect differences in relation to gender, race, nationality, disability and religion.
 Be ambassadors of college in local area, extend respect to all members of local community.
 Use facilities like books, equipment and resources provided to assist you in a careful and responsible manner.
 Strive to keep the college campus clean and plastic/litter free.
 Fans and lights of classrooms and laboratories should be switched off whenever not in use.
 It is the personal responsibility of the student to inform the college office of any change in her address/phone number or that of her parents/guardians. The college is not responsible for any gap in communication in case personal information is not updated by the student.
 Students must make it a point to read the College Notice Board daily. Ignorance of orders/notices duly displayed on the Notice Board shall not be accepted as an excuse for noncompliance.
 Day scholars are not allowed to visit or stay in the hostel without prior permission.
 Visitors/ outsiders are not allowed to meet and address the students during college hours without permission.
 The students are not allowed to organize/participate in any academic / industrial visits /excursion trips without the permission of the authorities.
 Parking of vehicles in no parking zones or in area earmarked for other persons is not allowed.
 Students are expected not to interact on behalf of institute with media representatives or invite media persons on campus without permission of authorities.
 Participation in on campus and off campus riots, demonstrations or activities which significantly disrupt the normal operations of college is prohibited.
 Avoid disposing litter inappropriately in college campus.
 Possession of any bladed article or offensive weapon or firearms is strictly prohibited.
 Possession of drugs, alcoholic beverages or intoxicants is strictly prohibited.
 Do not engage in any violent or threatening behaviour. Avoid intimidation, verbal slurs, insults or taunts, ridicule which may disturb educational environment.
 75% of the attendance is mandatory according to university norms. In case of shortage, the student will be detained.
 Appearing in-house tests and scoring 25% marks in aggregate is mandatory. In case of a medical emergency the student has to get her to leave sanctioned as per rules.
 Students should take care of their belongings. The institution will not be responsible for any loss. Code of Conduct for Non-Teaching Employees
 Every employee at all times shall serve efficiently, act in a disciplined manner, and maintain complete integrity and loyalty by being punctual and reliable in all duties.
 In the matters of leave and general conditions of service, an employee will be governed by the rules.
 No employee shall take part in, subscribe to any or assist in any movement which tends to promote feeling of hatred or enmity between the different classes. Raising question of caste, creed, religion, race or sex in his dealings within the institution is prohibited.
 No employee shall in any manner criticize adversely in public the administrative actions of the college authorities.
 Avoid unethical practices and not to do anything that will tarnish the image of college.
 Exercise self -discipline and deal politely with staff, students and general public.
 Must not remain absent from duty without official approval.
 Non-teaching staff working in laboratory and library should maintain stock register.
