On September 25th 2024, NSS Units and Red Ribbon Club of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, as per the directions of Youth Services Ludhiana, organised a one-day lecture on ‘Drug Addiction’. The resource person of the day was Dr. Amarpreet Singh Deol (Deol Hospital, Mullanpur). The objective of the lecture was to educate students about the causes, effects and prevention of Drug Addiction. The lecture covered various aspects of the topic including; understanding addiction, causes and risk factors, consequences of drug abuse, recognising signs of addiction and preventive measures. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where the students asked questions and share their concerns on compulsive drug use. Dr. Deol emphasized that unlike drug addiction which is stigmatised, social media addiction often ignored, allowing it to escalate unchecked. 84 students were participated in the event. The College Principal Dr. Amandeep Kaur acknowledged the resource person for dedicating time and sharing his expertise on such a critical issue. She also commended that such sessions play a crucial role in empowering students to make informed decisions and encouraging them to support others who might be struggling.
