
Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd celebrated International Mother Language Day on February 19, 2025 with great enthusiasm. The event was organized by the Post-Graduate Punjabi Department to highlight the rich heritage of the Punjabi language. The keynote speaker for the occasion was Dr. Jagwinder Jodha, Associate Professor and Editor, Punjabi Department, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The College Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur graciously welcomed the esteemed guest, acknowledging his contributions and presenting him with a sapling in appreciation of his presence. Dr. Jagwinder Jodha, in his keynote address, shed light on the rich literary and cultural history of the Punjabi language and emphasized its continued relevance in education and daily life. He also recited a powerful poem on Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s final moments before his execution and another on the life and revolutionary spirit of Che Guevara, inspiring the audience with their messages of sacrifice and courage. Adding to the event's significance, Honorable Trust Member S. Harmail Singh Sidhu also joined the gathering and addressed the audience on the importance of the Punjabi language. He discussed the impact of commercialization and the increasing use of other languages, stressing the need to preserve Punjabi in daily communication and education. A literary touch was added to the event with a heartfelt poetry recitation by Mr. Ashish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, who eloquently conveyed the beauty of emotions and significance of language. Student of BA B.Ed I, Navroj Jhanji also captivated the audience with a powerful poem, celebrating the cultural pride and heritage of the Punjabi language. The event also featured an interactive segment where Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Punjabi engaged students by asking thought-provoking questions related to Punjabi language and its significance. The stage proceedings were conducted by student of B.Com I Gomsi, who efficiently managed the event flow. A memento was presented to the resource person as a gesture of gratitude. Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Head of the Punjabi Department delivered the formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the resource person, guests, faculty, and students for their valuable presence and support in making the event meaningful.
