
Under the esteemed patronage of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujjagar Hari Trust, the Eco Club, NSS Unitand Human Values & Ethics Course of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd organized one day seminar on Environmental Conservation on March 18, 2025. The event was conducted under the 75thanniversary celebrations of the college. The session was formally inaugurated with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur, who emphasized the significance of environmental awareness and the institution’s commitment to sustainability. She welcomed the distinguished speakers with saplings. Chief Guest of the event was S. Satpal Singh from Green Punjab Mission Team, who gave an insightful lecture on environment conservation. He elaborated the Ego vs Eco concept, urging individuals to shift from self-centered exploitation to eco-friendly living. He stressed that 33% of land should be conserved as green cover and highlighted Punjab’s growing water crisis, which has led to its unfortunate title as the cancer capital due to contaminated water sources. He also proposed adopting the Dasvandh system—donating 10% of one’s land for tree plantations to contribute toenvironmental preservation. He concluded with the inspiring slogan: "Go Green, Yes We Can!"Following this, S. Gurpreet Singh encouraged the audience to connect with nature and embrace its positivity. He emphasized the importance of growing naturally cultivated herbs and vegetables at home, advocating for a self-sustaining and eco-friendly lifestyle. S. Harnarain Singh Dhillon then gave an account of India's Forest Act, 1952 and Forest Policy, 1984, explaining their significance in conservation efforts. He highlighted the importance of nature and ecosystem in Sikhism, emphasizing the spiritual connection between trees and the Sikh faith. Additionally, he addressed the plastic waste crisis, advocating for proper waste management and using public transport to reduce pollution.The team donated 70 saplings to the college and planted a tree in the campus as a lasting tribute.The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Inderjit Kaur (Eco Club & NSS Programme Officer) expressed gratitude to the speakers for their invaluable insights and to the students and faculty for their enthusiastic participation. As a token of appreciation, guests were honored with mementos. The session inspired students to adopt a greener, more responsible lifestyle, reinforcing the institution’s dedication to environmental sustainability.
