
Under the aegis of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujjagar Hari Trust and the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur, the Post Graduate Department of Commerce of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd organized a grand and colorful Baisakhi Mela on April 11, 2025, as part of the college’s 75th anniversary celebrations. In continuation with the Baisakhi celebrations, the second day started with a colorful and joyous Mela—an exciting new addition to the college’s cultural calendar. The chief guest of the occasion was Dr. Sharanjit Kaur Parmar (Principal, SahibzadaZorawar Singh Govt. College, Raikot). Mrs. Ramanjot Kaur (Principal, GHG Academy, Jagraon) graced the event as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Harmail Singh Sidhu, our Honorable Trust Member, graced the occasion with his esteemed presence and inaugurated the Mela with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.MrsDaljit Kaur (Principal, Sikh Girls Sen. Sec. School, Sidhwan Khurd), Dr. Amandeep Kaur (Principal, GHG Harparkash College of Education, Sidhwan Khurd), Dr. Puneeta Sharma (Principal, GHG Public School), Dr. G. Pavan Kumar (Principal, GHG Institute of Pharmacy)and Dr. B.V. Padmaja (Mata Ram Kaur Charitable Hospital) were added splendour to the event and appreciating the spirit of the students.The mela began with a special exhibition on the History of Baisakhi, where the festival’s significance in Sikhism and other religions was highlighted along with its diverse observance across various Indian states. Numerous students-led stalls were offering homemade food like cakes, sandwiches, shakes, golgappas, dahibhalla/chat, tikki/burgers,maggi/pasta, lemon soda, lassi, batatapuri and more. Creativity bloomed through stalls for mehndi, jewellery, suits, nail art, tattoo making, art and craft and a book reading corner. A props and selfie point, game zone and lottery counter added fun and charm. Students of Sikh Girls Senior Secondary School, Sidhwan Khurd actively participated by setting up their own stall, while traditional woven cots (Manjae) crafted by GHG Harparkash College of Education students became a highlight and earning appreciation for promoting cultural heritage and community spirit. The event featured a soulful traditional Punjabi song performed by Kirandeep Kaur and Ramanpreet Kaur of B.Com III. As part of the business fete, students promoted and marketed their stalls with creative strategies. Awards were presented for Best Stall to dahibhalla/chat, Best Advertisement Strategy to BatataPuri, Best Decoration to Nail Art and tikki/burgers and the special “ShounkanMele Di” prize to Jaspinder Kaur MA I (English). A StudentAmandeep Kaur from Commerce Department received a special award for her dedicated involvement in departmental activities. A lottery draw comprising 15 attractive prizes was held and the winners were announced amidst great excitement and cheer, adding a festive charm to the event. Dr. Harmail Singh Sidhu in his address, emphasized that in today’s fast-paced world, events like the Baisakhi Mela are essential for reconnecting the younger generation with their cultural roots and values. Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur lauded the successful execution of the event and emphasized the value of cultural engagement in holistic education. This first-ever Baisakhi Mela at the college left lasting memories of celebration, unity and creativity.
