Under the aegis of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust and the able guidance of Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur, the Departments of Botany and Zoology, Eco Club, NSS Units and Red Ribbon Club of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd celebrated World Ozone Day on September 16, 2025. The theme of the celebration was “Plastic-Free Campus” The celebration commenced with a pledge ceremony, where students vowed to adopt a plastic-free lifestyle and committed themselves to guiding their peers about the harmful effects of plastic and the use of eco-friendly substitutes. This was followed by a campus cleaning drive, in which students collected wrappers and plastic waste from different areas of the campus. A unique initiative was undertaken where the collected wrappers were filled into plastic bottles, which will be further reused for innovative decorative structures thereby promoting the concept of ‘waste-to-utility’. An awareness session was also conducted to highlight the dangers of plastic toxicity and the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives. Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and encouraged them to become torchbearers of environmental conservation. She emphasized that small steps like these contribute significantly towards building a sustainable and plastic-free future. The event was successfully organized with the efforts of Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Gurjeet Singh and Dr. Manpreet Kaur who motivated and guided the students throughout the programme.
