Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd organized One Day Workshop-cum-Community Outreach Programme on ‘Stubble Burning’

Under the aegis of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust and the able guidance of Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur, a one-day Workshop-cum-Community Outreach Programme was organized on 30-10-2025 by Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd in collaboration with PAU–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ludhiana (Samrala) on the topic “Stubble Burning.” The event was jointly conducted by the NSS Unit, Eco Club and Red Ribbon Club of the college. The workshop commenced with a warm welcome extended to the Chief Guest and Resource Person, Dr. Parvinder Kaur, Assistant Professor of Home Science from KVK, Samrala by Dr. Puneet Wadhwa, Head of the Department of Computer Science. Dr. Parvinder Kaur was honoured with a sapling as a token of respect. In her enlightening address, Dr. Parvinder Kaur highlighted the harmful consequences of stubble burning and discussed eco-friendly alternatives for paddy residue management. She emphasized its detrimental effects on soil fertility, air quality and human health, urging farmers, students and citizens to work collectively for environmental preservation. Referring to the sacred verse “Pawan Guru, Paani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat” from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, she beautifully connected the importance of nature with spiritual and moral responsibility, inspiring the audience to protect the environment as a divine duty. Students actively interacted with the resource person and asked relevant queries, making the session engaging and fruitful. Members of the Gram Panchayat from Village Sidhwan Khurd, S. Balwinder Singh, S. Gurcharan Singh, Mrs. Amarjeet Kaur and Mrs. Davinder Kaur also participated in the session reflecting strong community involvement. To further reinforce awareness, the college organized a Poster Making Competition on the theme “Stubble Burning.” Harshdeep Kaur (B.Sc. B.Ed II) secured the first position, Krishma Kaur (B.Sc. B.Ed II) bagged second position and Jashanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. B.Ed II) got third position. The winners were honoured with certificates and prizes sponsored by KVK. As part of the ongoing Red Ribbon Week (October 23 to 31), the Red Ribbon Club organized a Slogan Writing Competition on the theme “Drug Abuse and Social Awareness.” Jashanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. B.Ed II) won first prize, Nisha (B.Sc. B.Ed II) bagged the second position, Muskan Gaba (B.Sc. B.Ed II) secured the third and Krishma Kaur (B.Sc. B.Ed II) received a consolation prize. The winners were awarded by the present guests and felicitated with trophies for their creative contributions. The resource person was honoured with a memento as a token of gratitude. Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and motivated the students to become environmentally responsible citizens and agents of social change. The stage proceedings were conducted by Prof. Gurjeet Singh and the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Hardeep Kaur. The event was efficiently coordinated and organized by NSS Programme Officers Dr. Inderjit Kaur and Dr. Amandeep Kaur. A total of 125 students actively participated in the workshop. The programme proved to be highly enriching and impactful, sensitizing both students and community members about the environmental, social and health significance of curbing stubble burning and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
