Cambridge Professor Delivers Enlightening Lecture on Physics at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd

 

 

Under the aegis of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust, Sidhwan Khurd, an enlightening talk in the field of Physics by international faculty was organized on 18 December 2025 at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd. The resource person for the event was Prof. Raphael Blumenfeld, Bye-Fellow in Natural Sciences, Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge and Distinguished Professor, College of Science, NUDT, China. Honorable Dr. G. S. Grewal, Manager and S. Harmail Singh Sidhu, Member of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust, also graced the occasion. The programme formally commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Satinder Kaur, Principal, Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, who warmly welcomed the distinguished resource person and dignitaries. In his keynote lecture on “Granular Materials”, Prof. Blumenfeld elaborated on the behaviour of sand granules, explained the scientific principles behind silo collapses and emphasized the importance of Physics in understanding real-world and industrial phenomena. His scholarly insights made the session intellectually enriching and practically relevant. The programme was further dignified by the esteemed presence of Mrs. Frances Blumenfeld, Clinical Psychologist at the University of Cambridge and spouse of Prof. Raphael Blumenfeld, along with Dr. Sandeep Singh Grewal, Former Cabinet Secretary, Government of India. The programme also witnessed the gracious presence of eminent academicians including Mrs. Daljit Kaur, Principal, Sikh Girls Senior Secondary School; Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Principal, GHG Harparkash College of Education; Ms. Sandeep Kaur, Principal, GHG Public School and Dr. G. Pavan Kumar, Principal, GHG Institute of Pharmacy, Sidhwan Khurd, thereby adding academic prestige to the event. The rich cultural heritage of the institution, along with traditional heritage artefacts reflecting the legacy of the region, was showcased during the visit to the resource person and received high appreciation. An interactive Question–Answer session followed the lecture, during which students and faculty members actively engaged with the resource person. Prof. Blumenfeld addressed the queries with clarity and depth, making the session highly engaging and intellectually stimulating. As a mark of respect and appreciation, the distinguished guests were honoured with mementos. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. G. S. Grewal, Manager, Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust. The stage proceedings were efficiently conducted by Dr. Gagandeep Dharni. The event proved to be highly informative and inspiring, significantly enriching the academic environment of the institution.
