The traditional festival of Lohri was celebrated at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd under the able guidance of the Principal, Dr. Satinder Kaur with immense joy and enthusiasm by faculty and students. Mrs. Rupinder Kaur, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Jagraon graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur from the school was the guest of honour. They were greeted with saplings. S Pritam Singh Johal, Honourable Secretary, SGHGU Hari Trust adorned the event with his distinguished presence. Dr. Inderjit Kaur formally welcomed everyone. The celebration commenced by the customary ritual of offering ‘til’ in the bonfire as the crackling flames created an atmosphere of warmth and festive cheer and the participants gathered to embrace the spirit of togetherness and unity. The atmosphere was enlivened with festive fervour, when student Gagandeep Kaur of BA II enlightened about the significance of the festival in folklore. Parveen Kaur of BAI spoke about the contemporary relevance of Lohri. This was followed by melodious songs sung by Garima and Varinderjit Kaur of BCom III and Prabhjot Kaur and Asha of BA II entertaining the gathering and also conveying the message of gender equality. Manpreet Kaur of BA II recited a poem dedicated to the event. The tune of the ' dhol' accompanied by the energetic renditions of ' sundar mundaria' imbued the gathering in cultural hues. Everyone congratulated Avnoor Kaur daughter of S. Jagraj Singh , Harseerat Kaur daughter of Mrs. Rajni and Mehrab Kaur daughter of Prof. Gurjeet Singh on the auspicious occasion of their first Lohri. Best wishes were conveyed to the newly wed staff members Prof. Harpreet Kaur and her life partner S. Gurpreet Singh as well as Prof. Javid Ahmad and his better half Mrs. Aiman .Groundnuts and Rewari were distributed to all. S. Pritam Singh Johal animated the ambience with his witty anecdotes and encouraged the girls to cultivate confidence. Mrs. Rupinder Kaur blessed the students and said that it is a proud moment for her to visit this premier institution having renowned alumni who have excelled in various fields. She said that women empowerment should be implemented in word and spirit. She prayed for the bright future of the college and inspired the students to work hard and respect their parents. The Chief Guest was felicitated with a memento. Dr. Satinder Kaur delivered the formal vote of thanks and said that the students should make efforts to bring laurels to the parents and the institution. She hoped that the new year brings success, prosperity, peace and happiness for all. Tea Party was arranged for staff. Dr. Gagandeep Dharni and Dr. Inderjit Kaur incharges of the function meticulously planned and managed the programme. Gomsi, student of BCom II conducted the proceedings of the stage effectively.
