As per the directions of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, Khalsa
College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August
14, 2026. The programme was jointly organised by the NSS, NCC and Social Science Forum.
Students presented thought-provoking speeches and a poignant poem on the theme of Partition,
highlighting the pain, displacement, suffering and sacrifices associated with the Partition of
India. Dr. Navdip Kaur, Head of the Department of History, delivered an insightful lecture on
the causes, developments and consequences of Partition. She discussed the divide-and-rule
policy, Lahore/Pakistan Resolution, the Boundary Commission and the Radcliffe Award. She
also highlighted the important role and experiences of the Sikh community during this turbulent
period. She also referred to works such as ‘Borders and Boundaries’ by Ritu Menon and Kamla
Bhasin and ‘Azadi Ki Chhaon Mein’ by B. A. Kidwai, which provide valuable insights into the
experiences of people affected by Partition. This was followed by the screening of documentary
depicting the horrors of Partition. As a mark of respect to the victims and survivors, a two-
minute silence was observed by the students and staff. Students also participated in the National
Online Quiz on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day organised through the MyGov portal.
Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur emphasised the need to remember the painful history of Partition
with a spirit of humanity and without allowing communal feelings. She reminded the students
that “we are the children of Guru Sahib” and highlighted the universal message of “Manas Ki
Jaat Sabhe Ekai Pehchanbo,” urging them to uphold peace, compassion, brotherhood,
communal harmony and national unity. The programme concluded with a solemn reflection on
the sufferings and sacrifices of the victims and survivors of Partition and a renewed
commitment to humanity, harmony, mutual respect and national integration.
