National Service Scheme (NSS)

NSS is adopted by the college to instill the virtues of selfless service, amity and integrity among the students. The college has 3 units of NSS consisting of 300 volunteers working under the leadership of programme officers Prof. Hardeep Kaur, Prof. Karamdeep Kaur and Prof. Ashish Kumar. We take pride in the extension activities carried out by our volunteers.

 

Session 2022-2023

NSS

On July 11, 2022, as per the direction of Program coordinator, NSS, Panjab University, Chandigarh various activities were conducted under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ programme.

09 Volunteers participated in Poster Making activity with full zeal and zest on the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’.

A banner highlighting the value of education in a Girl’s life was made and was shared on the college facebook page to spread awareness amongst people especially the rural people.
➢ As per the directions of Department of Higher Education and DPI (C) Punjab, Sidhwan Group of Institutions celebrated ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence in collaboration with Youth Welfare Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh on August 15, 2022. Various programs were conducted by NCC unit, NSS units, Red Ribbon Club and Ek Bharat Sresth Bharat Club from August 08-15, 2022 to mark this historical event. The faculty and students were acquainted to the history of Indian National Flag. National Anthem was recited and patriotic songs were sung. The celebrations reached the crescendo on August

15, 2022 when three sister institutions Khalsa College for Women, GHG Harparkash College of Education and Sikh Girls Sen. Sec. School collectively organized a programme to observe the day. Flag hoisting ceremony was jointly conducted by the Principals of all the three institutions. A colorful cultural program, PPT and speeches were organized to mark the occasion which included selfie with Tiranga, singing patriotic songs and sharing information on the history of National Flag.
➢ As per directions of NSS Coordinator Panjab University, Chandigarh activities were organized by NSS units under Swacchta Pakhwara scheme from August 1-15, 2022. 9 volunteers participated in tree planation drive by planting saplings at their homes. 12 volunteers undertook cleanliness drive.

The 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah was observed in the month of September, 2022 with full zeal and zest. Four different theme based activities were performed.

FIRST WEEK: 13 NSS volunteers participated in Plantation Drive.

SECOND WEEK: 09 NSS volunteers participated in YOGA activity.

THIRD WEEK: 07 NSS volunteers participated in Poster Making. 15 NSS Volunteers also participated in online quiz.

FOURTH WEEK: PPT and speech were presented by NSS volunteers. A student participated in an online quiz.

On September 17, 2022, as per directions of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ was observed by NSS Units under which one day NSS Camp was organized in which 75 volunteers were participated and following activities were conducted:
• Volunteers painted flower pots and their stands.
• Tree stems were white washed.
• The college campus was cleaned.

On September 24, 2022, NSS units celebrated NSS Day. The NSS programme officers shared the history, aim and significance of NSS and activities to be conducted during 2022-23.

As per the directions of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, following activities were conducted by NSS units:

On October 19, 2022, Cleanliness drive was conducted in the college campus under National level special CLEAN INDIA 2.0 campaign. Different types of waste was segregated and put in different dustbins. 3 programme officers and 28 volunteers participated.

On October 31, 2022, National Unity Day was celebrated. 3 Programme officers and 32 volunteers took pledge to spread the message of unity and integrity.

On November 26, 2022, Indian Constitution Day was celebrated by NSS units in association with Social Sciences Forum as per the directions of Director, Youth Welfare Service and Government of Punjab. Various activities like screening of documentary on Indian constitution, speech by student, oath to adhere to the constitution and reading out the Preamble of Indian Constitution were organized. Dr. Rajwinder Kaur Hundal enlightened on fundamental rights and duties and directive principles and motivated students to become responsible citizens. 43 students participated in the function.

On December 7, 2022, NSS units observed Flag Day. A Collection of Rs. 2060/. was done by distributing flag stickers and the amount donated to the Secretary, National Foundation for Communal Harmony.

On December 28, 2022, Seven days NSS camp under the theme of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Fit India Campaign” was inaugurated. Volunteers undertook on campus and community outreach programmes during the camp.

Seven Days NSS Camp Organized
Under the aegis of SGHGU Hari Trust, Sidhwan Khurd and the guidance of Principal Dr. Rajwinder Kaur Hundal, seven days NSS camp was organised at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd from 28.12.2022 to 03.01.2023. The camp was inaugurated by invoking the blessings of Almighty through recital of college Shabad. The smooth conduction of camp was inclusive of screening of PPT and a documentary on Fit India which enlightened the volunteers on NSS Motto, significance of NSS and need for physical fitness. Community service was undertaken at the Sidhwan Khurd village by pasting reflecting tapes on vehicles. Competitions in 'Cooking without fire' and 'Salad making' gave the opportunity to the volunteers to showcase their culinary skills. Volunteers participated in activities like jumping, jogging, aerobics and yoga for improving health and fitness. Rally on Fit India, Clean India, Healthy diet, Drug abuse and Plantation was taken out at sidhwan village and awareness about health, fitness and healthy diet was created by interacting with the villagers. Free medical checkup camp was also organised for staff, students and community in which general check up and eye checkup was done. Slogan writing and Poster making on social evils made the volunteers conscious of their responsibility towards society. An educational trip to inculcate religio-moral values was also organized. On the concluding day i.e. 03.01.2023, a colourful cultural programme was presented by the volunteers. They shared their memorable experiences and feedback forms were also filled by them. The College Principal congratulated the volunteers and the programme officers. She motivated the volunteers to bring the NSS Motto into practicality and to change the world by being the change. S. Harmail Singh Sidhu, Sr. member of worthy trust gave his august presence and addressed the volunteers with citation of examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhai Ghanhaiya Ji who served the society selflessly. Labiba Fatima (B.Sc B.Ed-IV) and Gurwinder Kaur(B.A-III) were chosen as best NSS volunteers were rewarded with mementos. Excellent performers and winners were applauded and awarded. Accomplished with active participation of 33 volunteers, the camp left everlasting impressions.

On January 27, 2023 as per the directions of Director, Youth Welfare Department, NSS volunteers participated in watching live telecast of Pareeksha Pe Charcha-2023 by Honourable Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi.

On February 22, 2023, under the directions of Dean College Development Council, PU, Chandigarh, NSS units conducted various activities regarding G-20
❖ Group discussion on topic G-20 to discuss history and objectives of G-20.
❖ 33 students participated in G-20 based E-quiz conducted on Mygov portal and got e-certificates

A documentary on G-20 was screened for the volunteers.
➢ On June 21, 2023, International Yoga Day was celebrated by NSS units and Physical Education Department as per the instructions of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. One day Yoga Camp for staff and students to mark the occasion. Dr. Paramdeep Singh demonstrated various ‘asanas’. Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Principal (Addl Charge) enlightened the participants on the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. The participants practiced yoga with full enthusiasm.

Session 2021-2022

  • The college has 3 NSS Units comprising 100 students in each unit and three program officers. NSS units organized plantation drive, Swachhta Pakhwada, 4th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Clean India programme, Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat, Voter Awareness through SWEEP activities, Communal Harmony Week, National Girl Child Day, Online poster making and slogan writing competitions, International Womens’ Day, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Shahidi Diwas of Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh Ji and 75 years of India's Independence.
  • On September 24, 2021, NSS units celebrated NSS day with the residents of the Kusht Aashram, Jagraon.
  • 2- One Day NSS camps were organized by NSS units. Flag Day observed wherein flags worth Rs. 2285/ were collected and sent to the Secretary National Foundation for Communal Harmony, New Delhi. On Armed Forces Flag Day Rs. 3135/ were collected and this amount was sent to District Defence Services, Welfare Officer, Ludhiana.
  • On March 25, 2022, Prof. Karamdeep Kaur, delivered a lecture on the topic “Importance and Objectives of NSS” in Sikh Girls Sen.Sec. School, Sidhwan Khurd.
  • NSS units and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat club organised a programme named 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat'.
    • 300 students were enrolled as NSS volunteers.
    • As per the instructions of SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana regarding Buddy Group Program NSS units conducted following activities:

      • On 2 August, 2019, a speech on ‘Tandrust Punjab’ was delivered by NSS volunteer Virpal Kaur.
      • On 3 August, 2019, a rally was taken out by NSS volunteers on drug menace at Sidhwan Khurd Village.
    • On 14 August, 2019, NSS units in collaboration with Botany department organized a plantation drive under ‘Vanmahotsav Programme’. The NSS Volunteers planted saplings to make the environment clean and green.
    • As per the directions of Ministry of Youth Affairs andSports ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ was observed by the NSS units from 1 to 15 August, 2019.
      • On 1 August, 2019, NSS units organized an extension lecture on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Dr. Ajay Kumar of GHG Harparkash College of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd was the resource person.
      • 2 -5 August, 2019, cleanliness of the campus was done.
      • 6-8 August, 2019, a door to door campaigning on Swachhta was carried out in the village Sidhwan Khurd.
      • 9-10 August, 2019, cleanliness drive in the Sidhwan Khurd Village was initiated.
      • 11-13 August, 2019, cleanliness of dispensary of Sidhwan Khurd Village was done.
      • 14 August, 2019, an awareness rally on Swachhta Pakhwada was carried out.
      • 16 August, 2019, a meeting of NSS units and principal was conducted in the seminar Hall.
    • Live Telecast of ‘Fit India Movement’ at KCW Sidhwan Khurd
    • Swachhta Pakhwada observed at Sidhwan College from 1 to 15 September, 2019.

      • The team visited the key stake holders (Members of Panchayat) of the Sidhwan village and discussed the various methods that can be adopted for water conservation in the village.
      • A poster on “Save Water Save Earth” was displayed on the college Website. NSS volunteer Virpal Kaur delivered a speech on “Save water.”
      • An awareness rally by the Jal Shakti Team in the Sidhwan Khurd village was taken out to spread the message of importance of water. During the rally the NSS volunteers raised the slogans“Water is life”,“Water is Precious” etc.
    • On 11 September, 2019, NSS program officers Prof Hardeep Kaur and Prof. Karamdeep Kaur and two NSS volunteers attended workshop on 'SAVE ENVIRONMENT AND AWARENESS AGAINST BURNING OF STUBBLE' at PAU Ludhiana.
    • On 24 September, 2019, NSS day was celebrated. A PPT was presented by NSS program officer Prof. Hardeep Kaur and NSS volunteer Virpal Kaur presented her views on relevance of NSS.
    • On 02 October, 2019, NSS units took a pledge on single use plastic.
    • On 05 October, 2019, the NSS units conducted following activities on Say No to Stubble burning:

      • NSS volunteer Virpal Kaur, delivered a speech on increasing menace of stubble burning in Punjab.
      • NSS volunteer Jaspreet Kaur, delivered a speech on ‘Stubble burning and pollution’.
    • As per the directions of Government of India, Plastic waste free campaign ( Swachhta hi Sewa- 2019) was observed from 11 September, 2019 to 27 October, 2019:

      • On 30 September, 2019, a rally on ‘Plastic Free India’ was taken out by NSS volunteers in the Sidhwan Khurd, village.
      • On 2 October, 2019 NSS units organized ‘FIT INDIA PLOGGING WALK’ for about 2 km in Sidhwan Khurd village, a total of 48 NSS volunteers participated in it.
      • From 3-27 October, 2019, recycling and effective disposal of collected waste was carried out successfully and beautiful things from the waste plastic were made i.e. flower pots, lamps, pencil/pen box etc. The plant saplings were grown in the plastic bottles.
      • On 23 October, 2019, NSS volunteer Sanjna presented her views on ‘Pollution and Plastic’.
    • On 31 October, 2019 NSS Units of Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd commemorates the 144thbirth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel with great zest and zeal by observing National Unity Day.

      • A “Run for Unity” activity was organized by NSS units to promote the message of National Unity.
      • An Essay Writing competition on the theme ‘SardarVallabh Patel’ was also organized.
      • An extension lecture was held in the seminar hall in which Dr.Savinder Pal Bajaj, head of the history department, presented her views on ‘Contribution of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in the National Integration’.
      • NSS volunteer Muskan Rehan, Sumandeep Kaur and Rajdeep Kaur, also shared their views on the ‘National Unity and Patriotism’, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’ and ‘National Unity’ respectively.
    • NSS units observed Vigilance Awareness Week from 28 October, 2019 to 2 November, 2019.

      • NSS volunteer Sukhpreet Kaur, presented her views on ‘Corruption in India’
      • An essay writing competition was held, on the theme ‘Integrity: A Way of Life’.
      • A poster of Stop corruption was displayed on the college website.
    • On 11 October, 2019, NSS units as per directions of the government of Punjab regarding anti-drug campaign NSS volunteer Veerpal Kaur delivered a speech on “Increasing menace of drugs among youth”.
    • On 14 November, 2019, NSS units celebrated Buddy day, in which essay writing and poster making competitions were held.
    • On 26 November, 2019, NSS units celebrated Indian Constitution day to mark the 70th anniversary of the Indian Constitution with great enthusiasm. A pledge was administered by the college Principal, staff members and NSS volunteers in which they took a pledge to abide by the constitution and respect its ideals and institutions.

      • A PPT was presented by students of B.A about “Fundamental Rights and Duties”.
      • An extension lecture was delivered by Prof. Karamdeep Kaur on ‘Article under Constitution, Amendments, Fundamental Rights and Duties’.
      • Students were shown the live telecast program from the central hall of the parliament to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Indian Constitution.
    • From 19-25 November, 2019 NSS units celebrated Communal Harmony Week with great enthusiasm and flags of communal harmony worth ₹ 3300 were sold.

      • Flag Day was observed on 23 November, 2019.
      • NSS volunteers participated in a taught provoking group discussion on “Rising Intolerance & Fanaticism”.
    • Seven days NSS camp was organized in the college from 26 December, 2019 to 1 January, 2020, under the theme ‘Save Environment’. 57 volunteers participated in the camp. Various Power point presentations, panel discussions, lectures on ‘Say no to Junk Food’, Healthy individual and society, Relevance an awareness for NSS, Importance of library, Stubble burning, Women health, Women safety and Shakti app, Save environment, Indian constitution, Personal hygiene, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Global Warming etc were held. Volunteers also actively participated in poster making, slogan writing competitions, awareness rallies etc. Volunteers also went to a trip at PAU, Ludhiana. Veerpal Kaur, Navpreet Kaur and Sanjna were declared the best volunteers. Principal Dr. Rajwinder Kaur Hundal congratulated the volunteers and program officers Prof. Hardeep Kaur, Prof. Karamdeep Kaur and Prof. Paramdeep Singh for the successful completion of the camp.
    • On 16 January, 2020, a pledge on “Swacchata” was taken by the Principal, Staff and Students of the college.
    • On 17 January, 2020, a sapling with high CO2 absorption rate was planted in the college campus.
    • On 20 January, 2020, poster making and slogan writing competitions were held on Swachhata in which 15 NSS Volunteers participated.
    • On 21 January, 2020, a cleanliness drive was organized in the college campus in which NSS volunteers and NSS programe officers participated. NSS volunteers cleaned grounds, roads, classrooms, common room and Guru Nanak Bhawan.
    • On 22 January, 2020, poster making and slogan writing competition on “Water conservation” was held in which 10 NSS volunteers participated. In this competition NSS volunteers Rachhpal of BA III, Amanjot kaur of BA B.ED I and Gurdeep Kaur of BCom II stood first, second and third respectively.
    • On 23 January, 2020, Programmer officer Prof. Hardeep kaur, Prof. Karamdeep Kaur and Prof. Paramdeep Singh enlightened NSS volunteers on “Swachh Bharat” Programme in which they also stressed on the fact that students should participate in this programme to make it big success.
    • On 24 January, 2020, poster making and slogan writing competition was held on “forest conservation” in which 15 NSS volunteers participated. In this competition Navpreet Kaur of B.Sc. II, Sanjna of B.Sc. III and Pariinder Kaur of B.Sc. III stood first, second and third respectively.
    • On 25 January, 2020, a cleanliness drive in the college hostel was held in which hostel students and hostel staff participated. NSS volunteers cleaned rooms, corridors and hostel mess.
    • On 27 January, 2020, a competition on “Best out of waste” was held in which 14 students created useful items out of waste materials. In this competition Gagandeep Kaur (BA-II), Bhavita (BA-III) and Jaspreet Kaur (BA-III) stood first, second and third respectively.
    • On 28 January, 2020, Dr. Jasdeep Kaur, Assistant Professor in Economics delivered a lecture on water conservation.
    • On 29 January, 2020, a really on Swachhta was taken out by the NSS volunteers in the Sidhwan Khurd village in which 65 NSS volunteers with slogans and banners of Swachh Bharat.
    • On 31 January, 2020, prize distribution ceremony was held in which winners were awarded prizes by the college Principal Dr. Rajwinder Kaur Hundal.
    • During Lockdown period, 52 NSS VOLUNTEERS completed online training on “BASICS OF COVID -19” with E-Certificates, 73 NSS VOLUNTEERS registered on IGOT PORTAL and got E -Certificates. 62 NSS VOLUNTEERS downloaded the Arogya Setu App.
    • On 11 June, 2020,NSS Department conducted a one day webinar on the topic “Secrets of Success”. The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Dinesh Kanchan. Approximately, 100 participants registered and 52 attended the webinar. E-Certificates were distributed to the participants.
    • On 21 June, 2020, as per the directions of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India, NSS Units celebrated International Yoga day 21st June, 2020 on the theme Yoga@home and Yoga with family with fervour and enthusiasm amid Covid-19 Pandemic. NSS Units of the college organised many activities on this occasion. NSS Programme Officers as well as 70 NSS Volunteers participated in the online quiz organised by the Ministry of Ayush and all the participants got certificate of participation by Ministry of Ayush. About 20 NSS Volunteers participated in Poster and Slogan writing competition in which Navdeep Kaur (740) stood first, Baljit Kaur B.A. B.Ed.-I (3501) stood second and Sukhman Toor of B.A. B.Ed.-I (3512 ) stood third respectively.NSS volunteer Ramanreet Kaur B.Sc-II (1504) wrote an article on Yoga-A way to life. NSS Volunteers performed yoga at home with their families. NSS volunteers watched the live telecast of PM Narendra Modi address on 21 June 2020 on the occasion of International Yoga day. Principal congratulated and appreciated the efforts of NSS Units.
